Dr Andrew Sibson

MB, ChB, Cert FPA

Dr Sibson qualified at Leeds in 1990. He became a partner at Yorkshire Street in 1996.

He has an interest in dermatology.

He lives in Burnley and is an avid fan of Burnley Football Club.

His other past-time interests are running and bell ringing.

Dr Begum grew up and went to school in Burnley.

Qualified in Manchester in 2002.

She did post-graduate training in Preston, Burnley and Colne.

Interests in Women’s Health and Medical Education.

Dr Naomi Hemsley

MB ChB MRCGP DRCOG DFSRH

Dr Hemsley qualified from Manchester University in 2004 and joined the practice in January 2011.

Her three children keep her very busy outside of work. She enjoys spending time outdoors, especially in the Lake District.

Her special interests include minor surgery, paediatrics and sexual health. Dr Hemsley is the Practice Diabetic Lead GP.

Dr Tabassum qualified in 2011 from The University Of Manchester.

She completed her Postgraduate training in Preston, Blackburn and Burnley.

Her area of special interest is mental health.

Carrie Locker

Advanced Clinical Practitioner

Our Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) is an experienced and highly educated Registered Nurse qualifying in 2001. She holds an Msc , Bsc and PG Cert . Carrie sees patients from aged 1 up to the very elderly. Carrie is a highly experienced and educated nurse who is able to assess, investigate, diagnose, and prescribe. She can request scans, x rays and refer patients to the hospital for further treatment or admission as needed. Carrie sees a similar range of patients as the GP would normally see. She isn’t however able to see pregnant women or give out sick notes.
She has experience as a practice nurse, district nurse, commissioner at the CCG , various nurse manager posts , clinical lead ANP posts. She is our nurse manager for the surgery and is a PCN Burnley East board member . She has been awarded the title of ‘Queens nurse’ for her commitment to improving care in the community and for her leadership.

Mental Health Practitioner

Vicki qualified as a mental health nurse from the University of Central Lancashire in 2003.

She has worked in and around the East Lancashire area all of her career in both inpatient and community settings. Vicki has worked with people with an array of different mental health difficulties including anxiety, depression, mood disorders, psychoses and more.

Vicki has a good knowledge of local mental health services but is also able to offer on going support to people suffering with mental health difficulties who are registered with our practice.

Her specialist areas of interest are Perinatal Mental Health and promoting the physical health of those with severe and complex mental health problems.

Outside of work, Vicki is a football fanatic who supports Burnley FC and is also the Chairperson for a local grassroots junior football club. She also enjoys family time and keeping fit with regular exercise and walking her dog.

Sharron Mercer

Advanced Clinical Practitioner

Sharron is an Advanced Clinical Practitioner with experience gained from working as a District Nurse, Community Matron and Advanced Nurse Practitioner in other areas.

She has a post graduate certificate in enhanced clinical practice and a non medical prescribing qualification. She has also been awarded the Royal College of Nursing credential in advanced level nursing.

Sharron is able to assess, diagnose, request investigations and prescribe for patients. She does not see pregnant women. She has an interest in frailty and patients with co-morbidities.

Melanie Kay

Practice Nurse

Melanie has been a practice nurse with our team in the surgery since 2013.
She qualified as a nurse in 1999 at Leeds University School of Health Care Studies.
She has experience in working within acute medicine, geriatric medicine, and spent 4 years in intensive care as senior staff in the Blackburn and Salford areas before moving to primary care.
Melanie specialises in respiratory disease management and leads in this area.
Melanie is also trained in diabetes management, travel health, health checks, cervical screening, cardiovascular disease management, childhood vaccines.

Georgina (George) is our Health Care Assistant. George joined the practice in 2016 and has developed skills to assist the doctors and nurses. She is available for blood taking, health checks, weight, blood pressure and ECGs.

Claire Nguyen

Health Care Assistant

Claire grew up and went to school in Burnley then in 1996 at 18 she moved to America where Claire found her passion for caring. She then qualified as a LPN (Licence practical nurse) and worked in dermatology for 7yrs. In 2013 Claire moved back to England and worked in care in the community in all areas, clinical, domicilliary and admin. Claire joined our team for two days a week as a healthcare assistant in November 2019. She is covering Georgina’s (HCA) maternity leave . Claire also works at Accrington hospital (NHS) 3 days week.

Amna Ali

Health Care Assistant

Amna grew up down South and moved to Nelson in 2009. She has been working with the NHS since 2003. She worked within an NHS hospital for many years. Over the years she has gained a variety of skills and experience. From phlebotomy, ECGs, Immunisations, NHS health check, BP checks etc..

Enjoys being a mum to 3 beautiful boys and is quite adventurous and outgoing.

Amna started with Yorkshire Street Medical Centre in December 2019, and is covering Georgina’s (HCA) maternity leave . She has worked in a GP practice previously too .

She absolutely loves her role as a HCA and hopes to progress within her role.

Practice Nurse

I qualified as a nurse in 1999 at Manchester school of Nursing and Midwifery. I then went on to work on Accident and Emergency at Burnley General Hospital for 7 years then moved into Practice nursing 15 years ago. I joined Yorkshire Street in April 2019 after completing my Diabetes diploma. I am also trained in travel health childhood immunisations cervical cytology health checks asthma and Copd. I love to spend time with my family and friends and am a keen Burnley football club supporter .

Reception Team

Our team of medical receptionist are here to ensure you receive the best service. Most of them have completed the AMSPAR Medical Receptionist qualification (Association of Medical Secretaries, Practice Administrators and Receptionists).

They will be able to direct you to the most appropriate service, therefore it is important that you give them as much information as possible when booking your appointment.

Please be assured of complete confidentiality.

Reception is extremely busy throughout the day and for this reason, we operate to rigid timescales. Please be aware of these when ordering repeat prescriptions.

Our receptionists will always try and accommodate your needs, however in some circumstances you may not always receive the answer you would have liked. Please listen to the advice the receptionist gives, as advice is only given at the direction of the doctors themselves.

Administrators

Our administrators, Julie, Karen & Tammy are here to support the clinicians and the management team.

Julie is responsible for new patient registrations ensuring the smooth transfer of records between GP surgeries. She is also our Patient Participation Group administrator and edits our quarter newsletter.

Karen is responsible for all requests for information from patient records i.e., medical insurance, solicitors, social security medical information and access to medical records.

Tammy is responsible for the repeat prescription system and there to assist patients with any matters relating to their prescriptions.

Our administration staff are here to assist both the patients and GPs with referrals and access to other services. Should you have a query regarding a referral, please contact the surgery and ask to speak directly to the medical secretaries. Any requests for insurance reports, private work and other general information, should be directed to the secretaries in the first instance.
